Lake George, NY
Things to do
Looking to settle in and play a few holes of golf? Maybe the wife would like
to step out into an evening hot spot for a little dancing. But the kids would
really like a carnival, wouldn’t they? Load up the family and head to
Lake George, New York. There really is something for everyone at this New York
town that’s managed to retain its small town atmosphere.
For the vacationers who enjoy outdoor recreation, Lake George offers white
water rafting and tubing, parasailing, fishing and golf.
Nightlife is exciting. Go out for a nice dinner, followed by cocktails and
dancing.
History buffs will appreciate the lake’s importance in the development
of our country. Forts Ticonderoga and William Henry are located at the south
and north of the lake and were instrumental in the French and Indian War.
Photographers and artists will appreciate the pleasing beauty of the lake,
mountains and all the natural surroundings year around.
Vacationers on a mission to “shop til they drop” will not be disappointed,
either. Whether you prefer outlet mall shopping or unique boutiques and craft
stores, the Lake George area has it all.
Lake George and its surrounding communities offer a number of seasonal events,
too. Every Fall, the area hosts the Adirondacks National Car Show and the Adirondacks
Hot Air Balloon Festival. The Adirondack Stampede, the area’s annual rodeo,
brings cowboys from all over to Lake George.
The fun does not stop because of the ice and snow winter brings. As a matter
of fact, winter is celebrated at Lake George, too. The area offers approximately
100 miles of snowmobile trails to play on. Winter brings ample opportunities
for ice skaters, too. Each weekend in February, Lake George offers the Lake
George Winter Festival. A number of events take place, including snowmobiling
and braving icy cold water to take a dip with the lake’s Polar Bear Club.
The spring and summer months are typical vacation times, but the abundance
of activity available at Lake George and its surrounding communities are not
typical at all. In May, competitive rafters come from all over to compete in
the Annual Whitewater Derby on the Hudson River. An Americade rally held each
June brings more than 30,000 motorcycle riders to the Lake George area. The
Glens Falls Blues Festival and the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC)
Summer Arts Festival draw thousands to the area each year as well.
No matter what time of year you choose to go, you are sure to have a great
time in the Adirondacks and at Lake George.
