Lake George, NY
Directions
The Northway
Most visitors to Lake George and the Adirondacks in general come in their cars. Driving to Lake George is easy and fast, no matter which direction you are arriving from. This is because Lake George is just feet from a major thruway which runs north-south along the eastern edge of the Adirondack Park. This thruway is Interstate 87, which is called The Northway from Albany and northwards into the Park. Albany is about one hour south of Lake George, via the Northway. I-87 also runs south of Albany. Here it is called the Thruway, but it is still the same highway. It can be deadly slow and congested on Friday afternoons in the summertime around Albany, but once you clear the northern suberbs, you'll be cruising along. Albany is very congested at rush hour, too, so try and avoid driving there at those times.
