Where is Lake George? Lake George is in the south-eastern part of the Adirondack Park, just east of the Hudson River.
Why is Lake George different from all the other lakes in the Adirondacks? Lake George is huge (32 miles long!) and one of the most important historic battles in the American Revolution happened on its shores. So, between the enormity and the historical significance, not to mention the highly-developed tourist industry on the southern edge, Lake George is different from all the other lakes in the Adirondacks. Oh, it's also known as one of the clearest, cleanest lakes in the country!
What is the Monster of Lake George? His name is George, and in 1904 lots of people claimed to have seen him. Reputable newspapers reported the incidents, and it is all documented at the Lake George Historical Association.
When is the best time to visit Lake George? Well, that completely depends on what you like to do. There are things to do all year round, but the events and things to do step up in the summertime. What kind of people live near Lake George? The area around Lake George is inhabited by all kinds of different people...rich, poor, retired, professional. In fact, it is one of the most diverse populations in the entire Adirondack region. With the semi-urban environment of Glens Falls just fifteen minutes away, there is always a pleasant influx of all kinds of people.
How many people live in Lake George? The actual town of Lake George has about 3500 people, as of the 2000 census.
Is it expensive to stay on Lake George? There is a diverse range of price levels in accomodations. Everyone finds something within their price range. There is camping, there are small budget motels, and there are luxury resorts and hotels. Take your pick!
Is Lake George easy to get to? Very easy! Just drive up the Northway, which is the nickname for I-87, out of Albany, NY. Albany is centrally located at the junction of the New York State Thruway, and I-87. Lake George has its own exits off the Northway, and once you exit, you are almost in the Village of Lake George. It is very fast and convenient. You could not get lost if you tried!
Can I buy cheap land on Lake George? Lake George is beautiful and popular. The real estate right on the lake is coveted and expensive, for the most part. As you move away from the shoreline, land is more reasonably priced, but land in the Adirondack Park is limited so supply is not abundant.
