Lake George, NY
Nightlife
Lake George nightlife probably involves the most typical forms of entertainment most people would come to expect when they hear the term nightlife. For example, there is a comedy club, taverns, and pubs with live bands. Especially in summertime, when Lake George is brimming with tourists, the nightlife almost starts hopping. Remember, though, that Lake George is still part of the Adirondacks, not know for its rockin' party towns and discos. Sometimes nightlife means taking a night walk, when the mosquitos are finally gone for the day and you can enjoy the fresh mountain air without getting tortured by the infamous Adirondacks mosquitos. With the Adirondacks Perspective in mind, here is a sampling of what there is to do in Lake George at night, if you have to get out of your house or motel or tent.
Funny Bone Comedy Club
Top names in comedy perform here at the Funny Bone Comedy Club, and if you happen to be here during summertime you might catch one of their shows. Names that regularly appear on Comedy Central or on the Letterman Show make the trip north to the only comedy club in the entire region, here in Lake George. The host is also a comedian and an impressionist. There is a cover charge, which is under $20, and you have to buy some drinks once you're in.
The club itself is located at the Tiki Resort which is on Route 9N.
Adirondack Red Wings
This is actually in Glens Falls, which is one town over from Lake George on the interstate, but so close we consider it to be in the Lake George Region. Adirondack Red Wings is a professional hockey team in the American Hockey League. The team was formed in 1979 and uses the Glens Falls Civic Center as its home rink. They've won hockey championships four times... it's called the Calder Cup, and they have a very loyal and strong fan base right here in the Lake George region. If you can, go to a game when they're playing their arch rival, the Albany River Rats. The Adirondack Red Wings were the top farm club of the 1997 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings. They play forty games between November to March, and tickets are under $12. The Glens Falls Civic Center is on Glen Street in Glens Falls. Glens Falls has its own exit off I-87.
The Boardwalk Restaurant & Bootleggers Pub
This fine establishment is a whole lot of fun, and it's been around for a long time entertaining locals and visitors in Lake George. It's a gorgeous property, situated right on Lake George, with its own marina...you can pull up in your boat, tie up, hop out, and eat dinner. Anyone would agree that's a fine way to spend the evening. Then after dinner you can glide home on the dark lake under the stars after a fine meal and live entertainment. The live entertainment consists of all sorts of music acts, several nights a week. There are oldies bands, contemporary rock banks. acoustic acts, and some progressive rock. Get a seat on the outdoor patio and enjoy the music under the stars... this is Lake George at is best! The Boardwalk Restaurant & Bootlegger's Pub is located on Lower Amherst Street in Lake George.
Duffy's Tavern
Duffy's Tavern is also a restaurant-club on the Lake. They also have live entertainment, but here it's every night of the week (during the summertime), and there's dancing too. There are three bars, and the dining area is open year round. Come on Saturday night and you'll get to hear live reggae. There is a raw bar where you can enjoy alfresco dining, and also a cabana bar. Duffy's Tavern also opens up full swing with live entertainment during the Lake George Winter Carnival, too. It's located at 10 Amherst Street in Lake George.
D.J.'s Night Club
DJ's Night Club is where to go if you really love to dance...they're open until 4 am and they spin the newest dance tracks all night long. In fact, they're open every night until 4am...this is a real party spot. The dance floor is pretty big, with a pretty good light show. There are three bars around the dance floor, and if you get tired of dancing there is a pool room with a dart board. DJ's Night Club is open Spring through Fall. It's located on Canada Street in Lake George.
Painted Pony Rodeo
Besides dancing and listening to live music, we have some alternative nightlife here in the Lake George region...and one of these is a night rodeo. There are farms in the area between Lake George and Lake Luzerne, and Painted Pony has championship-level rodeo all summer long. Watch the bulls and horses, and definitely go for the el-cheapo barbeque dinner they serve beforehand. Admission is just $10 and kids are cheaper. They have the kids' meal barbeque, too. Painted Pony Rodeo is located on Rte. 9N in Lake Luzerne.
Lake George Steamboat Company's Minne-Ha-Ha Monlight Dance Cruise
The Minne-Ha-Ha is a historic paddle wheel steamboat that cruises up and down Lake George with live entertainment for anyone who wants to go. Saturday night is the night they offer the moonlight cruise, all summer long. It leaves the dock at 10pm and brings you back around midnight. If you don't want to dance, you can enjoy the night air and cool breezes from the upper deck, gaze at the stars, peer into the dark water, watch the lights on the shoreline as you glide by in a paddlewheel steamboat. Children are welcome, and admission for adults is about $15. Kids are about half that price. The Moonlight Cruise leaves from Steel Pier on Lake George.
Lake George Dinner Theatre
Dinner and a show put on by professional equity actors for under $50, and you just can't find a better deal than that. The Lake George Dinner Theatre, operating out of the Holiday Inn-Turf on US Highway 9, runs a single show all summer long every night of the week except Sunday.
